A fascinating article was posted at The Daily Beast this morning. In in, the data gurus on the Democrat side of the political aisle discussed Hillary Clinton’s accusation that bad data and technology cost her the 2016 Presidential race.
According to Clinton:
“I set up my campaign and we have our own data operation. I get the nomination. So I’m now the nominee of the Democratic Party. I inherit nothing from the Democratic Party,” Clinton said during an interview at Recode’s Code Conference on Wednesday. “I mean it was bankrupt, it was on the verge of insolvency, its data was mediocre to poor, nonexistent, wrong. I had to inject money into it — the DNC — to keep it going.”
Let us state for the record: we are big believers in the power of data, technology and campaigns built from the ground up with Voter ID and GOTV work being essential components of winning campaigns. It is why we do what we do.
However, as one of the data gurus noted:
“The DNC is farming and what the campaign does is cooking. It’s hard to blame the farmer if the souffle folds.”
We agree 100%. A candidate and his or her campaign can have the best tools available to them, but if they don’t use them correctly OR if the candidate is sub-par, there is no amount of data or technology or any other set of bells and whistles that can save that candidate.
Good candidates are the core component of any successful campaign.
